Mission and Purpose of Class

My Sunday School Class is made up of very active 4 & 5 year olds.  They are a typical group of pre-school kids -- short attention spans, spilled juice on a weekly basis, talking during story time, some very original thinking, usually a long way from the point I was trying to get across, and some very unusual prayer requests.  All of this can leave you wondering how much good you are doing, and how much of anything they are learning.

Over time I have come to understand that a Pre-K teacher has two very important missions.  The first is to lay a foundation for future salvation decisions and growth in Bible knowledge and spiritual matters.  It is amazing how much these little minds actually hear and understand in spite of all the talking and wiggling they are doing.

The second mission in my class is to love them.  I can't think of many things that will keep a child wanting to come back to Sunday School than to know it is a place where they are loved and accepted just the way they are and for who they are.

Teaching little people can be exhausting but the rewards more than compensate.  There are no words for the feeling you have when one of them trusts Christ a year or two after they leave your class.  The huge smile, the pictures made "just for you" are worth more than gold.

Vision and Hope for Future Growth

In the last three years our church has been blessed with much growth in our Sunday School.  Our Pastor's desire and hope is to see our classes double every two years.  I have been blessed to see this happen twice in my classroom.  It is my hope that we will see this work continue.
